Seemed odd at the time because BYU only had one undefeated season. But the pitch was different. It was that BYU fans were talking about the multiple winning seasons, top 25 rankings and relative national coverage.
The takeaway, they would rather be a consistently winning and ranked program than have Utah's lightning in a bottle BCS years.
Now...here we are a decade later. And Utah has both. Utah still has those BCS bowls but is now consistently winning and has been ranked at some point now 8 or 9 seasons in a row...and in something 12 of the last 13 years.
For a school like Utah to be doing that, not against UNM, CSU, Wyoming and UTEP...but against the AZ schools, USC, UCLA, UW...that's fantastic.
I don't see any of our old original MW peers doing anything close to Utah. They're ranked one season a decade and refer to that as the glory years.
