Hispanic is not a race...its an ethnicity. Hispanic derives from Hispania, the Roman name for Spain. The original Hispanics are European and of Caucasian race. When the Spaniards conquered much of South America, they intermixed with indigenous people. I think people mix up Hispanic as looking like a mix of Caucasian and indigenous. Hispanic can also include Caribbean people like from Puerto Rico where there was mixture with African. Therefore it is an ETHNICITY NOT RACE
