He had a goal of retiring before 50. He had a young family with young kids. His family literally lived in the most run-down part of our area because it provided the cheapest rent. He never went out with us, never ate anything more than cheap food in a brown bag, didn't seem to have any hobbies outside maybe exercising in nature, and his family never seemed to do much. Maybe they were super happy, but it seemed like such an extreme lifestyle just so he could retire early.
