You need to be responsible and save for the future so as to not be a huge burden on family, but at the same time the point of having resources is to be able to use them on experiences. We get a very short period of time where our kids are with us, using resources to create memories and experiences is the main reason I'm investing the way I am.
We balance it by ensuring we're maxing out retirement yearly contributions, and going on vacations that are modest but a lot of fun. We live in Utah, and go to Bear Lake, St. George, and San Diego on vacations typically, along with a week at our family's cabin with my broader family. Instead of thousands on travel and activities, it's more like $100 in gas total.
