won't work a job they can't live from, well my 17 year old son sure appreciated his job last summer at the car wash. He saved a ton towards college and mission and really, he got some good experience.

I do agree with you that automation is coming - however raising the minimum wage just ushers it here more quickly. For years I've wondered what will people do when the vast majority of people's needs can be met with a workforce of say 50%? Does that mean that we starve the 50% because they have no job? Seems like the church's model of doing service in return for goods/services might make sense at that point. Idleness certainly isn't the answer.
