I’ve often wondered why college coaches seem to be reluctant to play more kids along the way in general. Seems like a
good way to improve talent and perhaps find the undiscovered potential.

Lavell had the luxury of playing many truly horrible teams every year but even beating teams by 30 and 40 points generally you would only see first and second team players until the last few minutes and then you would see the star recruit freshmen get some plays. (It actually depended more on the position and coach. Defensive positions would seem to play more guys throughout a game.)

I’ve always thought it would provide more motivation for the kids in practice if they knew they had a chance for some playing time and not just to get in for a kneel down play or to dribble out the clock during a blowout game.
