didn't have the necessary talent. I think there's a good argument that it was the coaching style. During his tenure, we had several promising players leave and blossom elsewhere. It was frustrating.
However, Jimmermania doesn't happen if you give too many of his freshman and sophomore minutes to someone else. He still becomes good, but not as great. Unless a player is your star player or expected to become such, their "role" is to fill the gap.
Bronco's teams were also notoriously shallow. Second stringers were usually a huge drop. It's hard to know if that's because they weren't developed well or because they just didn't have the talent.
I think both Pope and Sitaki are much better at developing their bench players. It's not nearly as devastating when we lose someone to injury nowadays.
The flip side of that is that we see career benchwarmers that are visibly much more capable and promising than in years past. You'll get frustrated players transferring out under both coaching styles, but I think bench players are happier this way. They look less foolish when they get playing time, and they end up on better teams when they transfer.
Personally, I'd rather sit on the bench and win than get playing time and lose.
