Video games were having a really negative impact on my son who just turned 8.
We were letting him play like 30 minutes a day during the week and maybe an hour or two on saturdays. Video games was all he could think about. It was his only motivator. It was "after I finish my jobs, then can I play video games?" Then once he was done playing he acted really poorly and all his motivation was gone. Seemed like he was much more disrespectful after playing. And he was always asking for more time, and always thinking about it. When we wouldn't extend his allotted time, he would mope and refuse to do anything such as playing outside or doing normal kid things. He was obsessed.

So we took away the video games a couple weeks ago. We don't know how long we will take it away, but it will be at least until the end of the school year, maybe longer. It just seems video games at any level are not good for him right now. We don't even let him play video games at his friends house for right now. He seems to be doing better, and is able to focus on normal kid things. And he does his jobs now without the "well, if i do this, then can I play video games??"
