Sounds like what I do only my focus is on calories. When I do that I tend to eat smaller portions of the things I really like (sugars) and eat more of the lower calorie things like vegetables and lean meats. I don't think most people realize how easy it is to drop 1K-2K calories in a meal. My rule of thumb is that for every 3,500 calories over your limit you gain a pound.
