Kalani benefited from making some really smart assistant coaching hires just like Lavell did when he hired guys like Chow, Holmgren, Tollner, Scovil, Kragthorpe, Warren, Reid, Billick, French etc. They brought their coaching talent which made the staff better but at the same time they benefited from their opportunity to work and collaborate with other great minds in a great environment.

Lavell's contribution was to bring these guys together and provide the environment where they could thrive. Sometimes his coaching hires were a swing and a miss, like when he hired Walt English to replace Scovil in 1978.

Grimes benefited from working with Arod, Fesi, Clarke, etc as much as they benefited from working with him. Hopefully he's able to continue his success on his own. KS has some great offensive assistants in place to carry on
