Well, going to the AAC won't get us any closer to beating Utah again. But, there

is an argument to be made that maybe we shouldn't expect anything more, and that's our peak.

If you're willing to accept that as permanent, then the AAC is a fine option. BYU as an AAC member would never play for a national championship again under any scenario that exists today. But, that might be true of independence, as well.
