When we were in the hospital with my mom after we were called to come as she took her last breathes, a hospital social worker came into the room and offered to sign her up for hospice care. Keep in mind that my mom had lapsed into a coma and her breathing included the dreaded death rattle.
We were all a little stunned. My mom was literally within 10 minutes of passing on and they came to offer hospice services.
Why? To be able to bill us for more services. That's why. My mom would have received exactly ZERO benefit from those services.
Finally, I spoke up and said "Can't you see that she is ready to pass on? Why would we need hospice care? She replied that she is required to ask.
Left a really bad taste in my mouth.
