My grandpa did that once (the skunk was rummaging around in the trash heap when grandpa came upon it). Grandma never could get the smell out of his clothes, so they just buried them out in the field.

That story is still told to this day whenever his descendants get together. 🙂

Skunks are relatively easy to trap. I don't know about drowning it, though. Wouldn't it release it's spray when it dies?

Skunk cages are designed to prevent the skunk from spraying.

This. A skunk won't spray if it can't lift it's tail, and the skunk traps are long and narrow. There's no room for them
