Simone is still the best gymnast on the planet and it's not even close. So this
is a major shocker. Guess you don't know everything going on even with the elite. And gymnastics is such a mental and technical sport.
The sexual abuse stuff she (and many others) suffered can't help.
But her pulling out is not an admission that she's isn't by far the most capable or that she's too old and shouldn't be competing. This would be like Federer (trying to equate age--maybe Federer 3 years ago) pulling out of the Wimbledon final where he wasn't even facing Dokic or Nadal.

Really frustrating for the alternates who could have been on the team and were good enough to help earn gold.
