I think that dropping out of the team events is a pretty clear admission that
she is no longer at her best level.
IMO, mental health issues should be destigmatized to the point where they are viewed in the same light as any physical injury or impairment.
Nobody is surprised when a star athlete slows down and gets injured more often in their later years. But it does make it clear that they're no longer at the level they once were.

Really frustrating for the alternates who could have been on the team and were good enough to help earn gold.
