Reading more about this, Simone is 24 (ancient in gymnast years) and hasn't been
in a top level competition for two years due to the pandemic.
Seems to be some speculation that her pulling out of the team event isn't shocking. It probably gives her a better chance at medaling in the individuals.
I guess the unspoken part is that maybe she shouldn't have even been on the team, but the marketing power couldn't be ignored.
