'Not Holier than I' syndrome. They justify their actions by thinking that they
are looked down on much like the rich Zoromites (BYU Nation, (in their mind)) looked down on the poor, more righteous, slighted, overlooked, dirt beneath their fingernails, smelling of natural cow fertilizer, poor Zoromites.

I have quite a few siblings that have gone there and all of them justify their dislike toward BYU because of past offenses from someone they new who went to BYU and didn't smile at them, or because a vehicle with a BYU bumper sticker cut them off. That dislike is handed around amongst them like a plague.

They are all GREAT people and wonderful church members, they just think that BYU is similar to the apostates that betrayed the church and caused Joseph Smith's martyrdom and they feel justified in disliking BYU because of imperfect students and alumni. Interesting that they show love and compassion for the students and alumni and allow forgiveness and repentance, but if they did something wrong while supporting BYU, that wrong can never be erased from the university and there can be no redemption. It is just strange.

After much thought and struggling with the conundrum, I have come to the conclusion that the best thing that can be done for them is to have the football and basketball teams seriously pummel the USU squads during the games. It keeps them from talking smack and digging a bigger pit for themselves.
