1984coug Intervention Needed
Appreciate it- all issues are fixable- but there are just so many glaring holes
Our DL doesn’t seem to practice appropriate rip techniques to shed blocks. Doing so will get more holding penalties called on the opposing team. It is legal for the offensive line to grab. They have to stay engaged, and when we just straight bull rush, it’s easy for the OL to do that. Rips, twists, swims get through that. That’s how to sell a hold or break free.

Our OL is poor- I got flamed after the ASU game for saying they are bad with footwork. When they put it together (think Freeland big block in that game for Holker), they are very good. But they have too many missteps (Freeland also whiffed 3-4 more of those type of blocks because he is stepping with the wrong foot). Barrington is getting embarrassed right now because he is flat footed and getting his hips turned.

The only thing actually working for BYU right now is the DB, Wr, and Qb position (although there are misses time to time here as well). Allgeier and Katoa are getting burned for going back to the well one too many times with their cut backs. It’s a double edged sword- OL isn’t getting to the second level and neither RB consistently hits the right hole- both like dancing a little too much. It worked in the front half of the season for Allgeier- Katoa not so much. My opinion was Katoa should be moved to a slot player (like Covey). Get him in space.
