But you don't have to turn Freddie Freeman into a bunter. If he does it once the series, it serves it's purpose
And it puts him on same as a base hit would. Fans want scoring, they want baserunners. That's one big reason why the extra innings rules changed. They don't care how that happens.
you wouldn't see Freeman up there bunting half of the time. If Freeman and Albie's and Duval and Riley bunted wants to serious, you wouldn't see the shift come out for them again the rest of the series. You're talkin 1 out of 10 or 12 at-bats. And if they do it successfully, after two or three series no other teams are going to do it because they don't want to give up that easy baserunner.

The shift does nothing to prevent a guy from jacking it over the fence. All it's preventing is a single.
