Soft squishy shoes may help immediate pain, but don't help strengthen the foot.
A long-term solution should address strengthening the foot/muscles/tissues. Minimalist shoes might not be best in the short term, but long term they can allow the body to run with a more natural motion and strengthen the areas that are weak.
