I agree with your general premise, but…
Fever in a newborn is different than in toddlers, kids, and adults. We’re pretty lucky that newborn mortality has dropped so much. We’re only the third or fourth generation who can expect to not have a child die.

Meningitis is serious and hard to treat once you fall behind. $5k (or more) is worth it to me and most people to rule that out or get them early treatment.

But yeah, the vague abdominal pain that gets a CT scan even though nothing has changed since the last CT? Nothing but wasted money
