I've considered the same but have seen several colleagues change and get equity
matched at the new firm either equal or a little more (sometimes the same vesting schedule). It's all in the negotiation I guess. "I'm going to be giving up X in future vesting equity, so I need a signing bonus, or that equity replaced." Sometimes they ask for a statement and the valuation but that's easy to show/prove.

Another way of looking at this is sometimes transferring in hopes of getting more playing time doesn’t work out
