Some of us work in industries where equity is not much of a thing. Some of us are much happier doing a specific type of work that isn't in much demand, and can't fathom a work life doing something less enjoyable for a lot more money. Some of us are fantastic workers but terrible interviewers. Some of us need to live near family or certain medical centers for health reasons. Some of us will never have the Elizabeth Holmes salesmanship needed to convince people to just hand us money so we can start our own successful business. Some of us have received terrific performance reviews and asked for raises time and time again, only to be shot down every time.
