I assume at some point we will burn 42 gallon barrels in power plants

Each barrel contains about 1600 KWH, after inefficiencies about 1000 KWH of energy delivered.

So approx 3,000 miles range in a Tesla per 42 gallon barrel of oil. That is compared to getting about 32 gallons of refined gas/diesel or 1,000 miles driving equivalent. So we still win 🙂
