We have been building the wrong type of nuclear power plants.
Traditional nuclear power plants take too long and cost too much to build. This significantly increases the risk involved with the investment. The keystone pipeline is a good example of how an investment in massive construction projects that span across election cycles can be put at risk.

What happens if you start building and inflation causes interest rates to rise?

SMRs (small modular reactors) are the solution to this problem. Much faster to build and therefore much less risky.
