You just added a lot of stipulations to the question you asked. There are lots of example of tanking working even if they are unique circumstances. Fewer examples of going half way and having it work but those usually involved a big risky trade like Kawhi to the Raptors

The thing people miss about trading Rudy & Donovan is that you’re also likely getting back a top 5 (or top 3) draft pick
