I don't see how that makes them more money. It might work short term but in the
end having regional interest in local teams increases the revenue. Eventually half the current college football fans wouldn't care. And with the increase in media options, they don't have to tune in.

Their current model of keeping markets interested while giving a very small portion of revenue is ideal.
