source on the Salt Lake area since I haven’t lived there since the late 80s. I do visit and have family in the area. And, of course, I go to Provo for as many games as I can (I live about a 4.5 hour drive away).
No alcohol is strictly enforced. Like even the best of places, you might run into someone that is a jerk because you’re a fan of the visiting team, but for the most part people are very friendly. Some visiting fans even find it a bit unnerving how friendly people are. Like it can’t be real. Most people IMO are sincere about it though.
The corner where visitors sit isn’t bad. I have sat near there from time to time when buying single game seats. It is an end zone so you get the pros and cons of that (you get interesting views of the holes in the lines, but sometimes it’s hard to tell how many yards the ball carrier gained). You’ll be welcomed into the stadium and employees will probably do something like bringing free ice cream to your seating area if you’re in the visitor’s section.
I would guess the downtown Salt Lake area would have the best bar scene, but not living there or going to bars, I’m a bad source.
A couple of years ago there was an issue with a lot of homeless near the Union Station area. That may have been cleaned up though.
I grew up 5ish miles to the West of downtown. That area has a bad reputation that is undeserved IMO. But it does tend to be lower on the socioeconomic scale.
