Them other than perhaps UNC and UVA is going to be looking to the SEC before the Big 10 to join. Actually the Florida schools. They don't want to go play in Minneapolis and Iowa City and Madison and State College and Bloomington. Their fans and recruits and boosters and board of trustees would all rather have them playing in the Southeast.
Both Warren and Sankey know that. I I think Warren knows he's not going to make it inroads into the South further than perhaps North Carolina. But if they feel that perhaps there are no programs left that will actually increase their revenue (at least no programs which will receive a full immediate share like USC and UCLA are going to receive), he is certainly smart enough to make a calculated statement like that which may leave somewhere like Oregon or Washington feeling the risk of getting left out and offering to take a partial share for a period of time. So if you can make a comment like that which saves say $30 million/year x2 schools for a couple of years and that money goes back to your existing members, why would you not? Especially if it gets you to the same end result? It just sounds like a commissioner doing his job to me.
