I don't think it's odd that membership records are kept...thus "members". I do
find it odd that people focus on it though when talking to people/about people. I agree with the sentiment that we just love everyone. Membership status or lack of membership shouldn't change our behavior toward anyone. I get that there is a camaraderie that comes when someone shares similar beliefs. But I find my neighbors who don't go to the LDS church are just as fascinating to get to know as those that do go. Such good people.
Like many, I wonder if recruits are LDS or not, but it has more to do with if they're going to play 4 straight years or take time off for a mission.
