After the BYU rejection, he got excited about UVU's aviation program.
It's something he's always had an interest in, but that was resurrected when he took a much closer look at UVU over the summer. BYU obviously doesn't have such a program.
No doubt he would have taken BYU had he been accepted originally, but I guess things have changed.
