If you are taking a 9+ hr road trip you will probably be planning on stopping at
least a few times (for most people.)
You will need to eat one meal. You will have at least one stop for gas. You will have at least one other stop for a bathroom.
So you eat a meal at your 40 minute stop, and the other ones are going to be marginally longer than they would be anyways. Really not that big of a deal.
Again, if you are the type that just drives non-stop for hours on end and gets drive thru then it would be a big adjustment. For most people though (especially those with kids) it's really not that big a deal. Takes you a little longer to get to your destination.
Keep in mind it's also much cheaper so that is a factor as well.

Stopping 4 times and waiting 1 hour and 40 min (assuming no lines) sounds ridiculous. Particularly in the desert.
