It depends on his goals
As a rebuilder of programs, the insights of unsuccessful bureaucracies likely mean nothing to him. He has made a career out of building a foundation of success and establishing a winning culture in programs that haven't seen one for a while. Can you really blame him if he walks into a dead program, revitalizes it, and then doesn't want to listen when all of the sudden people outside the program want to chime in?

If his goals were to elevate a program that has already established a certain level of success I'd agree, he'd have to be more open to listen in that scenario. But the likes of UVA, Rutgers, Arizona, Indiana, Vandy, Duke, Colorado, etc. have very little room to make demands of a guy who is winning football games at their schools. Every program has a natural ceiling and every fan always wants their school to take the next step forward, but it isn't very often that they are considering the very real possibility that their program may have already hit its ceiling.
