Steve Young got so nervous he threw up before every game. He was a bust at Tampa Bay before becoming an MVP and SuperBowl champ with a different coach.
Jake Toolson was essentially let go by one coach as he struggled with the mental part of the game. He was considered a bust by many and left BYU. Then with a different coach he exceled, came back to BYU, and became one of our most consistent 3-point shooters ever.

Sometimes the coach isn't bad and the player isn't bad, but the combination is.

I don't know enough to say that is the case with Conover. I just know most people in AZ considered him on par with Purdy and Rattler as a high school player.
