I haven't experienced it personally but I know some of my family members have. My mom told me that one of my uncles (her brother) went to BYU and basically told his younger siblings that BYU was the only place to go if they wanted to have a successful career and consider themselves good members of the Church. This turned off a couple of my aunts and uncles so badly that they hate BYU and do not want their now kids going anywhere near BYU.
