My kids are the same age and we’ve had a ton of great vacations with them.
You definitely have to plan differently but we’ve been on two cruises, four trips to theme parks, Oregon, Florida, California, Arizona, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and a ton of shorter trips and they all, collectively, have created some of our very fondest memories.
Don’t wait until your kids are older to try and travel with them or IMO you will miss out on a lot of fun experiences.

Maybe his wife needs to feel like she has control to avoid unknowns. Some people don't deal well with unknowns.
