First problem is hotel, stay in Airbnb. The pick times/days your kids can
meet up with others. Sounds like you are with extended family or where you used to live.
We dealt with this in Utah after we moved out. We would go back and kids wanted to meet up with friends.
Not as much of an issue as it has been 7 years.
But have days with plans for your family and let them know those days they aren’t going to meet up with friends etc. but include them in the planning of those days in advance.
Also a cruise is a great idea, maybe just your family?

Maybe his wife needs to feel like she has control to avoid unknowns. Some people don't deal well with unknowns.
