instructions in person, and that we had 24 hours after closing to complete the transaction... Or something like that.

Then our bank confirmed with us that we weren't sending the wire from email instructions.

Most regular people don't know to NEVER send a wire based on email

Local moves can be done with cashier's checks. But wires can also be used.

Often times yes. Or the money is quickly forwarded on to a foreign account.

Usually only a few minutes in a US account, then immediately wired overseas.
