Honestly, ASU getting AAU recognition is not great for Utah
Previously, if the B1G wanted to add 4 Western teams (which may or may be the case), the obvious two were Oregon and Washington.
And Utah probably wasn't the next choice (among Stanford, Cal, Colorado, Utah, Arizona who are all western AAU teams), but there could at least be semi-coherent arguments made (as opposed to arguments for any of those last 4 over Oregon or Washington). Probably not winning arguments, but at least not completely ludicrous...
But now ASU just made themselves stronger competition there.
Before this the order was probably
- Washington
- Oregon
- Stanford
- Colorado
- Utah
- Arizona
- Cal
- Arizona St
And now Arizona St just likely jumped ahead of Utah

It’s not actually that crazy. I could see it happening if B1G really values adding more teams from the west.

Will it happen? I doubt it. Too many other schools with more value. But Dismissing it completely doesn’t make sense.
