I grew up playing in the 90’s and play on a Beer league…
It’s not like other hockey towns but there are a lot of fans. I’ve been a Penguins fan for since 1990 when they drafted Jagr. It’s always been a niche sport here but those that play it love it. I played every sport growing up and in high school. Hockey was always the most enjoyable.
I play against guys in a drop in games that are in their 70s.

It all comes down to winning. Hockey didn’t catch on in Phoenix because the team has 1 division championship in 30 years
