LeftOfNormal All-American
This is the biggest (only, actually) "morality" reason I cared about when buying
a Tesla (and ironically, this isn't specific to one company, it just so happens that Tesla is on the lead on this front) the support of automated driving. The very concept elicits nigh unto visceral reactions from many people, but stripping emotions aside, technological advancement after technological advancement has PROVEN that removing human error through automation SAVES LIVES. I have spent a lifetime in manufacturing. When I was fresh out of college, the grizzled old guys near retirement (so, having started in the industry in the 60s-70s) ALL had missing fingertips, limps, loss of vision, etc from workplace accidents. And they'd talk about buddies who weren't as lucky who have either been on disability for years, or died(!). I'm not at that grizzled stage yet, but of the guys 10-20 years ahead of me, zero missing digits! Automation did that. And it will do that in transportation as well. I get that people enjoy the feeling of controlling their performance vehicle, and that has its place. I get that people dislike ceding that control (yet, these people still fly, but I digress). But loss of life and money in damages from human-caused vehicular accidents is STAGGERING. And, selfishly, the sooner the steering wheel is removed from the stupids, the sooner my insurance will go down!
