General observation from comments in this thread.
People seem to think that in the end, there will be no contradiction between their religious beliefs and how scientists currently see the future unfolding.

I hear people say all the time that there's not really a contradiction between religion and science, only a perceived contradiction.

I don't see how that holds. Because:

Scientists say a long way off, the sun will run out of fuel and burn up the Earth as it dies, just like other stars have died and burned up the planets near them. Seemingly an observable fact that that has happened and is happening right now in the universe, and will continue to happen.

And that the universe will keep expanding apart and eventually suffer a heat death. Other, less popular models, include the big rip, and the big crunch/possibly bounce. None of which are really compatible with theology.

Religious leaders on the other hand, say Jesus will soon literally come out of the sky with Trumpets playing and save the believers and that the Earth and everyone on it will last forever and ever. Trillions of years will be a drop in the bucket. It will be an exception to the rule for all the other stars and planets whose fates have already been met/seen.

Those two visions of planets and the stars fates are at odds with eachother. One is based on models built off of observational evidence, etc, and the other is in contradiction of said evidence based off of purported revelation or "revelation" depending on your view.

You can't get much more opposite in terms of conclusions and outcomes than that and yet many maintain there is no contradiction between religion and science. Forcing some highly speculative/nonsensical/contradictory explanation, that is based off of... nothing really.

Most people are understandably biased toward the anthropocentric view. Because, well, it favors them, obviously. So they have motivated reasoning leading their efforts to justify and become an apologist for the religious view. Imv, Imo.

People love Charles Barkley and many others for calling it as he see it but hate when Tyson does it. Probably cuz what Barkley says, no matter how rude and unfactual he can sometimes say it, doesn't threaten their beliefs about their future state of (non)existence or cause existential worry, cognitive dissonance, angst, etc.

Just my thoughts on it. I'm a nobody. We're all okay. Everything's fine.:)
