not sure exactly, but I understand the common person had very few clothes. maybe 2-3 sets
so they had to do it all with those clothese. and suits were just the standard for men bc they could be casual or church wear.
rich people obviously had a lot more, but even they had many fewer individual pieces than an equivalent rich person today.
