Well, they were defined as amateur athletes. Much of this has been driven by college football bringing in big money so
those athletes felt like they deserved a cut. What about athletes in sports that don't bring in any revenue and actually cost the universities a large amount of money to survive? Should they have to pay their own way? I'm afraid that the next step will be for universities to start cutting these non-revenue sports. That would be a shame.
