Shattered Dreams (BYU's continuing challenge)
I feel for your son and his situation. I can understand your disappointment and anger. Ultimately your son was responsible for his academic situation regardless of his knowledge of the problem.

Gary needed him to be there and he wasn’t (Your fault, his fault, asphalt, doesn’t matter) Gary has determined that he couldn’t count on your son. It was your son’s responsibility to rectify that situation. He didn’t.

Bottom line: He wasn’t in the best 10 linemen on the team. If he was all-world then he would have a scholly. I disagree about Gary being a person not of character. You expect him to follow through on an agreement that your son didn’t live up to. How can you expect a higher standard from him? Circumstances change based on new events and information. That is a fact of life.

Shattered Dreams will continue to be an ongoing source of disappointment and grief for players of high ambitions and lesser talent.

People generally live up to the expectations placed upon them. I expect Excellence, Sportsmanship, and a National Championship every year. To expect anything less would be to give up the fight before the first volley is fired.
