It's hilarious that you think the 'environment' is unique to Penn State.
Do you think it requires a prestigious P5 football program serious about winning to create an environment that enables sex offenders? Virtually every sexual assault case has an 'environment' you can point to and blame for not doing enough. Whether it's a family that should've known their son was fishy, or teachers that should've seen victims withdrawing, there's always an institution around that 'failed the victims.' Ever bothered to ask why?

It's because institutions are just people. And people are not good at spotting and dealing with sex offenders. And even when they are, they have to deal with that obnoxious rule of law thing where you're innocent until proven guilty.

So yeah. If blaming institutions makes you feel like you're some sort of sophisticated champion for the victims, then by all means, continue to toot that horn. But it's ill-informed. It's lazy. And in sexual abuse cases, it takes focus away from the more important ways of dealing with sex abuse: helping victims heal, and bringing predators (the actual predators) to justice.
