With the explosion of the NBA in the 90s to a worldwide sport along with AAU becoming widespread for pre-teens..... The game has seen a step forward in skill, strength, versatility, athleticism, etc.
Steve Kerr talked about this recently and admitted he would have a hard time seeing the court in today's game.
There are very few American white bball players because the black community has embraced bball along with Europe.
The majority of big men in the NBA can dribble and shoot 3s....in the 80s that was almost unheard of.
Players are MUCH MUCH better shooters today because they grew up with a 3 point line.
Guys like DeRozan would be an mvp candidate in the 90s....in today's game he's seen as a guy that can't shoot the 3 and isn't on anyone's mvp list.
The defenders were more physical but they weren't as smart, long, athletic, etc.
The 90s still had elite players that would be great today.... But they weren't very good top to bottom.
