Money reasons BYU makes sense
Other than Texas & Oklahoma, there is not much national relevance in the Big 12. Even when teams like Baylor, Ok State, and Tech are good, they don't move the needle much nationally. Now, BYU may not get the Northeast all excited, but their history and fan base on the West Coast is extensive, drives interest interest in a different region, and brings a new time slot that the B12 currently does not have access to unless it is willing to play games at 9pm Central time. This is huge for TV partners. The P12 is the only relevant occupant of that time slot, and a BYU addition to the conference could open up that time slot and that revenue to the B12.

This, combined with the conference championship game and West Coast recruiting should put BYU in a situation where they are at least Value neutral, if not revenue neutral. Its tough for the entire B12 to live off of Texas recruiting now that A&M has brought the SEC into the picture. Add Cincinnati and access to Ohio talent to the mix, and you've got a good combination.
