The problem is that the revenue they get from 3rd tier rights won't increase
if they expand and add another team because those revenues aren't shared with the rest of the conference. If they were to add another team it would have to increase the value of the 1st and 2nd tier rights combined with their bowl revenue to be worth it. They would have to add $20 million+ worth of value to those specific things to be worth it - which is highly unlikely for just the Tier 1 and Tier 2 TV rights with how their contract currently is. If they could negotiate higher paying bowls that could possibly get them where they need to be, but overall it's pretty unlikely. I would be that they don't expand prior to 2024.
