Are you saying that first-hand context would/should NOT change my view of events? That seems like a fairly silly argument to make. I think almost everybody would agree that we understand things better the more we learn.
You might have inferred that my view changed in a way that made me less critical of Japanese war atrocities. But that's certainly not what I said, so that inference would be wrong.
